Jasmine: We wanted our honeymoon to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience, so we thoroughly pampered ourselves with all our favourite things during those three weeks in the U.S., from dining at Michelin-starred restaurants, to getting one-on-one photography lessons (a Christmas present from me to Andrew) and watching the Nutcracker ballet in Washington. However, I’d say our craziest indulgence was engaging a New York photographer to do a quick photo shoot for us. I’d found J’Adore Love online and communicated our vision for the honeymoon shoot via email to our photog, Efrain, who was based in Brooklyn: we wanted it to be romantic but light-hearted, showcase our winter clothing (since we’d never ever get that chance in Singapore), and basically capture some “quintessential” New York moments.
Andrew: Being chased out of a library, taking photos in the middle of the road (in between traffic light changes) and of course, getting to layer our clothes (which would never happen in Singapore) – these are experiences I will never forget. The photos turned out very well too as we both looked relaxed and like we were having fun.
Here are some of our favourite shots – by locality:
Outside the New York Public Library
Jasmine: We considered other photoshoot sites, such as a ‘50s diner, a rundown 19th century hotel and Coney Island, but ultimately we decided on New York Public Library since it was the cheapest (e.g. free, provided we snuck around). Anyway, I’ve always dreamed of doing a photoshoot in an old-fashioned library so this was pretty much perfect. Furthermore, it was not just any old library, but the library where Carrie got married in the Sex and the City movie. I adored the gorgeous white exteriors and the classic interiors, which you can see below:
Jasmine: I love the photo below as it has truly captured us in a dreamy moment.
Being our usual geeky selves inside the Library:
Jasmine: We ‘recycled’ our geeky glasses from our wedding photoshoot (plus they were much more portable than other props).
At Bryant Park:
Jasmine: I like this photo above because the New York subway sign features prominently in the background, and there is a passer-by who seems to be smiling at our antics too.
Andrew: This is my favourite shot, because Jasmine just looks so happy here!
In the middle of busy New York:
This shot looks surreal!
And of course, how would this post be complete without a quick look at our fashion choices:
Bespoke vest from Emanuel B (Wedding suit), Grid shirt from PoA, Blue polka-dot tie from Topshop, Spectacles from Emporio Armani
Jasmine: Our photographer said that Andrew looked like he’d just stepped out of GQ magazine!
Dress and lace tights from Betsey Johnson in Washington D.C., ankle boots from Aldo, hairband made from recycled packaging from Bryant Park
Jasmine: Oh… I did my own makeup and Andrew’s and my hair. I wanted a minimalist take on ‘60s makeup, so I bought Revlon false lashes and a plastic crown comb from a drugstore in Times Square, and using the crown comb, I tried to tease my hair into a mini bouffant, which you can see more clearly in other pictures. This was a bit hard since I didn’t have any hairspray!
